Gusting Conditions for the EurILCA Master Fleet

The Royal Malta Yacht Club hosted the opening day of the 2025 EurILCA Master Series, marking the start of this international competition.

The EurILCA Master Series gathers experienced ILCA sailors from across Europe, delivering top-level racing at various venues throughout the year.  The Series is open to sailors aged 30 or older as of the first race in 2025.

Today’s ILCA races saw 19 ILCA 7 and 10 ILCA 6 Class sailors  take on a Windward/Leeward course with two laps. The race kicked off in breezy conditions, with winds at 15 knots gusting to 18 knots.  As the fleet rounded the leeward mark on the first lap, the wind decided to put on a show, gusting up to 28 knots!  This sudden shift challenged the sailors, with some choosing to retire.

The Race Committee, lead by Race Officer Martin Azzopardi,  prioritised safety, concluding the first race and deciding to call it a day.

Racing will resume tomorrow, Saturday, 11th January at 1100hrs.
