Safran Rouge recently took part in the Rolex Tre Golfi Sailing Week, held in the stunning Gulf of Naples and organised by one of Italy’s oldest sailing clubs, the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia. Now in its third participation with this boat, the Maltese crew—alongside owner Mr Oliviero Emaldi—once again embraced the challenge of this offshore classic.

The Tre Golfi is known for its tactically demanding course. With numerous turns, island roundings, and close passes along the Italian coastline, the regatta is as visually striking as it is technically demanding. This year’s edition was particularly fast, with winds reaching up to 35 knots. Conditions shifted from calm, wind-seeking moments to full-on offshore squalls, requiring the crew to adapt quickly between light sails and storm gear.
Starting in the afternoon, the race traditionally kicks off after a convivial crew lunch—a moment of friendship and relaxed banter before the competition intensifies. “It’s a race we look forward to,” said Safran Rouge owner and RMYC member Oliviero Emaldi. “The scenery, the course, and the conditions make it a true test of seamanship.”
Safran Rouge is no stranger to Maltese waters either. The yacht is based at the Royal Malta Yacht Club marina during the summer months, where the team enjoys the Club’s facilities and evening events with the owner. Many of the current crew are part of the former Comanche Raider team, with members taking turns racing across a busy annual calendar of around six regattas.
Mr Emaldi expressed great satisfaction with his Maltese crew, highlighting the strong bond and experience they bring to the deck. “It’s become a tradition, and a joy, to race together,” he shared.
With yet another successful Tre Golfi behind them, the Safran Rouge team continues to set its sights on more offshore challenges ahead.
