Resumption of Sailing & Racing Activities

In view of the recent announcement whereby present Covid-19 measures will start to be eased in the coming weeks, the Royal Malta Yacht Club will be tentatively making changes to the existing calendar.

The first events are scheduled to take place on the week starting 24th May, when the inaugural Yachting Malta Race Week will kick off with a number of events.  The Club is co-hosting this event and will continue with a number of events in the following weeks as detailed below:-

24th – 26th May –  Steering the Course

A World Sailing initiative to highlight the inclusion of women in the sport, a programme of sailing will take place, mainly within Marsamxett Harbour with the involvement of all local sailing clubs and will include opportunities of new comers to the sport to race on RMYC Sailing School Dinghies, Multi Class Sailing and an SB20 Class Invitational where ladies may join the owner/skipper of an SB20 to Race outside the Harbour.

29th MayVeuve Clicquot Long Distance Race (Keelboats)

A long distance racE  around Linosa will start on Saturday 28th May from the Grand Harbour.  A Race Briefing will be held on Friday 28th May.

28th – 30th May – VOOMQUEST Powerboats

A Series of Races will take place over three days, with racing, most likely taking place off the Sliema Seafront.

29th – 30th  – SB20 Class Grand Slam

The SB20 Malta Class will hold a Grand Slam Regatta on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Venue to be confirmed

2nd June – RMYC Short Coastal Race

Afternoon coastal race of, starting at 1815hrs, for approximately 90 – 120 minutes – time to make up for lost time due to Covid-19

5th June  – RMYC Long Coastal Race

Starting at 1100hrs, course options could be round Gozo or round Filfa depending on weather conditions.

6th and 7th JuneNational Ranking Dinghy Regatta.  

Hosted by the RMYC Sailing School, will take place in a race area outside Sliema Sea Front.

The RMYC Sailing Calendar will proceed with mid-week Coastal Races as per proposed schedule below.

Wednesday 16th June

Sunday 20th June – Long Coastal

Wednesday 23rd  June –

June 26th – June 29th – Offshore Race to Sicily (venue to be decided and depending on Travel Restrictions).

16th July –  Yachting Malta – Syracuse Race

We want to make it very clear that all this depends on the measures being eased and the Royal Malta Yacht Club will be adhering strictly to any protocols put in place.
