Day one at the 2016 RS Feva World Championships. There are 165 boats, our crews’ numbers are the following
Girls 25 – Megan Ferry / Emilie Gregory
Boys62 – Kane Seychell/ Harry Parnis England118 – Alex Bartoli / Nick Bonello Ghio
Crews started off the day with north wind between 050 and 040 degrees, which reached 15 knots at the start of racing and dropping to 10 knots in the last race.
The day was not a good as expected, with some challenging starts and less desirable choices on the last bit of upwind made the team lose critical places in the mark roundings and important ground after the start. This caused our team to chase the fleet rather than taking the lead.
However, the team has identified the mistakes and where they can improve – a bit of risky moves on the starts but all according to plan. The starts were always a bit of a challenge and this is part of the price of having a small national fleet.
However, no excuses and the team will be aiming to do things differently tomorrow, which is the last day of qualifying series with 3 more races and one discard predicted.
The RMYC wishes the best of luck for tomorrow!
Fair Winds to all!
