Boxing Day Fun Race Raises €2700 for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation

The Royal Malta Yacht Club recently concluded its annual sailing festivities with the much-anticipated Boxing Day Fun Race, marking the final sailing event of the year serving as a fund raising initiative for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.

The event brought together the sailing community for an enjoyable morning on the water. Despite light winds at the start, a sizable fleet gathered in front of the Royal Malta Yacht Club, embarking on a short course to the Fairway Buoy and back. Mrs. Miriam Vella, present for the start proceedings, personally conveyed her gratitude to the participants and organizers, acknowledging the race’s support for L-Istrina.

While the limited wind may have tempered the excitement at the beginning, the competition heated up as boats vied for the titles of the best-dressed boat and best-dressed sailor. Creativity abounded among the crews, adding a festive flair to the race.

The Club recognized the efforts of four outstanding boats in the Best Dressed Boat Category: Be Free (Horst Huesley), Inspiration (Godwin Zammit), Kon Tiki (Fernando Grech) and Wenna (Joe Muscat).

The accolade for the best-dressed sailor went to Jonathan Camilleri Bowman.

Following the morning on the water, participants gathered at the Club for mulled wine, mince pies, and plenty of cheer.

Mark Napier, Vice Commodore of the Royal Malta Yacht Club, expressed, “This donation is a reflection of our shared commitment to fostering a strong, compassionate community that looks out for one another. It reinforces our belief that, together, we can create positive change and make a lasting impact on the lives of those facing challenges within our community.”

The generosity of the sailing community saw a total of €1350 being collected. The Royal Malta Yacht Club doubled this sum, presenting a total of €2700 to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. This contribution supplements the €5,000 previously presented to His Excellency Dr. George Vella during the prize-giving ceremony of the Rolex Middle Sea Race in October, showcasing the Club’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy and community support.
