The fleet taking part in this year’s BOV Gozo Regatta, will brave strong winds and large swells during the annual 3 day event organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, being held between the 15th and the 17th November 2019.
The boats will leave the Grand Harbour on Friday 15th November in the early afternoon and race to Mgarr Harbour in Gozo in what is expected to be a very fast passage due to the forecasted strong winds. Saturday will see the fleet compete in a number of races along the southern Gozo coast and then race back from Gozo to Malta on Sunday.
Last year’s overall winner Elusive II, who also recently were overall winners of the Rolex Middle Sea Race will see stiff competition from the rest of the fleet for the coveted trophy.
The boat skippers met for the customary race briefing and were addressed by RMYC Commodore Godwin Zammit, race director Peter Dimech and BOV Chief Officer Horace Laudi.
‘The prevailing conditions will test the skippers and crews and will highlight the most cohesive teams in the fleet’ said the RMYC Commodore. ‘We will continue to monitor the conditions during the race to ensure the safety of all the crews and wish the best of luck to each and every participant.’
‘As a major supporter of sporting initiatives in Malta and Gozo, Bank of Valletta is delighted to once again support the BOV Gozo Regatta and local yachting community’ said Stefan Abela. ‘The determination and courage of these crews who are excited to race despite the tough conditions are testament to the resilience of our country against diversity and we look forward to again meet the winners and all the participants during the prize-giving ceremony following the races.’
