Strong International Showing for Katrina Micallef at ILCA 6 Youth World Championships

Maltese sailor Katrina Micallef delivered a standout performance at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships in Los Angeles, representing Malta and the Royal Malta Yacht Club in the fiercely competitive ILCA 6 Women’s fleet, which featured several sailors already competing at senior level.

Over six days of racing in steady 16–18 knot winds and strong currents, Katrina completed the full 12-race series, qualified for the Gold Fleet, and finished an impressive 15th overall. She maintained a high level of consistency throughout the regatta, posting results close to the top 10 and even securing a 4th place in one of the Gold Fleet races.

The final day brought lighter and more unpredictable conditions, which impacted her final standings slightly. Nonetheless, Katrina remained focused and composed, handling the physical and mental demands of the championship with maturity and determination.

With another year remaining in this age category, she has set a strong foundation to build on ahead of the 2026 edition.

Her participation was made possible through the support of the Maltese Olympic Committee, the Royal Malta Yacht Club, and the Malta Sailing Federation.
