Initiative to further strengthen its efforts towards marine conservation.
The Royal Malta Yacht Club recently hosted eNGO Zibel, for an impactful presentation on the importance of marine conservation. The event aimed to spread awareness about the critical issue of ocean waste and inspire action within the local sailing and coastal communities, particularly amongst the RMYC Sailing School Community.
During the presentation, Zibel founder Andrew Schembri highlighted the dangers of improper waste management, especially in relation to marine debris, and shared practical tips on how individuals can play a role in reducing ocean pollution. A key takeaway this initiative was the introduction of the Zibel bin situated outside the RMYC Sailing School. This dedicated bin is exclusively for plastics found in the sea, as these materials cannot be processed alongside everyday recyclables.
“The Royal Malta Yacht Club is fully aware of the urgent need for collective action to safeguard our oceans, and we are committed to furthering this cause. Together with Zibel, we believe that small, mindful actions can lead to meaningful change” commented David Cremona, RMYC Commodore.
In response to this urgent need for action, the Royal Malta Yacht Club, the RMYC Sailing School, and Zibel will be hosting a Coastal Cleanup event on Friday, 13th September at 1:00 PM at the RMYC Sailing School in Ta’ Xbiex.
This initiative is open to all those who are passionate about preserving Malta’s natural beauty and is an opportunity to protect marine life, keep our coastline pristine, and foster environmental stewardship among young sailors and the public in general.
The Royal Malta Yacht Club will provide all necessary cleaning supplies.
Particiption should be confirmed by sending an email to sailingschool@rmyc.org
