BOV Round The Islands Race 2013

OtraVez  wins BOV Round the Islands

Otra Vez skippered bybrothers Aaron and Edward Gatt Floridia will be the second boat to have itsname engraved onto the BOV Round the Islands trophy, after being named theoverall winner of the 80-nautical mile race which was held last weekend. 

Otra Vez edged pastChristian Ripard’s and Lee Satariano’s Artie RTFX with Comanche Raider II JonasDiamantino placing third.  VanessaMacdonald, Head Media and Community Relations Bank of Valletta, and Godwin Zammit, Commodore of theRoyal Malta Yacht Club, presented the trophies to the winners.

Sailing out from MarsamxettHarbour on Saturday morning in very light winds, crews faced the arduous taskof keeping their sails filled as they rounded the south of Malta to head uptowards the South Comino Channel and round Gozo.

The leading boats movedslowly into the harbour, at about 3 am on Sunday morning with Comanche Raider crossingthe line first just inches in front of Otra Vez. In his firstreactions Otra Vez owner Aaron Gatt Floridia said, “We had expected a longchallenging race and we were not disappointed! The crew had to be alert all thetime focusing on keeping the boat moving and making sail changes whennecessary.  In the end, we were verypleased with our performance and enjoyed the race thoroughly.”

This was the second time that BOV supported the racealthough its cooperation with the RMYC goes back several years.
