Racing at the EurILCA Masters 2026 continued under testing conditions on the second day of competition in Malta.
With the sea state outside Marsamxett Harbour becoming increasingly unsettled, the Race Committee opted to keep the fleet within the harbour rather than return to the exposed waters off Dragonara Point.
Although more sheltered, the course still provided a demanding arena, with a brisk and shifty breeze ranging from 15 to 25 knots placing a premium on control, balance and tactical awareness throughout the fleet.
Despite the unsettled weather, the Royal Malta Yacht Club Race Committee was able to run two further races, keeping the Series on track while maintaining safe and fair racing conditions.
The continuing challenges have added an extra layer of intrigue to this year’s championship, with consistency and composure proving just as important as outright speed as the series progresses.
The ILCA 7 standings remain finely poised, with Mark Lyttle and Alan Davis continuing to occupy first and second place, still divided by just three points. Behind them, Ukraine’s David Surkhov moved ahead of Tim Law into third overall, with only a single point separating the pair as they head into the final day of racing.
In the ILCA 6 fleet, Niall Peelo dropped from yesterday’s leading position to third, allowing Conor Barry (IRL) and Roel Ballieux (NED) to move ahead. However, with only one point covering all three sailors, the title remains wide open going into the decisive final races on Sunday.
The EurILCA Masters Series in Malta is being hosted by the Royal Malta Yacht Club together with its partners SailCoach and is supported by Yachting Malta Ltd.
