Positive Showing at the MAPFRE Euromed International Regatta and 3rd Europa Cup

The RMYC Sailing School crews delivered a strong showing at the  Mapfre Euromed International Regatta and 3rd Europa Cup, hosted by Malta Young Sailors Club, where they competed against a highly competitive international fleet of over 200 sailors from 39 countries. With racing standards exceptionally high across all classes, the event provided a true test of skill and consistency.

In the ILCA 7 fleet, Tomek Vaccaro produced a standout performance, securing 1st place overall and 1st Under 19, while Matthew Flores also gave a good account of himself, finishing 6th overall and 3rd Under 21 finish.

The ILCA 6 class, the second-largest fleet with 54 entries and an exceptionally high standard of competition, saw Jonas Micallef finish 5th overall and 3rd Under 17, with Poyraz Fidanboy close behind in 6th place overall.

In the Optimist fleet, which featured many of the world’s top young sailors, Ethan Kodjaazliev finished 9th overall, while Gianni Bianchi claimed 12th overall. Their performances saw them overtake one of the race favourites Carl Bigersson  – Danish Nationl champion and 3rd overall in the Optimist World Championships.

A special mention goes to our Optimist Beginners, who rose to the occasion in their first-ever international regatta, delivering encouraging performances and valuable experience.

The Royal Malta Yacht Club extends its sincere thanks to Malta Young Sailors Club for hosting a professionally run and memorable event. Special thanks to the coaches who supported our athletes throughout – Ruya Cakmakli (Optimist), Kaitlyn Eadie (Optimist Beginners), Karlis Junkers (ILCA 6 & 7), and Dimitrios Paschalidis (ILCA 4).
