1. Preamble

  • Article 6 of the Royal Malta Yacht Club (‘RMYC’ or ‘the Club’) Statute provides for the Committee to draft bye-laws.

    The Club exists to encourage and provide facilities for the sport of yachting and related social activities and it is a not for profit organization.

2. Admission of Club Members

  • Membership of the RMYC is open…
  • It will be the normal practice…
  • Article 4 of the Club Statute sets out…
  • Applicants for membership must demonstrate all of the following qualities:
    • A genuine interest in yachting…
    • That they prove their identity and residence…
    • That they are known to their proposer…
    • That they are known to their seconder…
  • Applicants may apply for membership:
    • Completion and submission of the RMYC membership application form;
    • Completion and submission of a Letter of Motivation or Yachting CV;
    • Submission of identification documentation…
    • Submission of a letter of support from proposer;
    • Submission of a letter of support from seconder;
  • As required by Articles 2 and 4.2 of the Club Statute…
  • Applicants can download the form from the Club website…
  • Applicants must submit their application documents via email…
  • The Club Administration may perform an online search…


3. Membership Rights and Privileges

  • Full Members, Family Members, and Honorary Members are entitled…
  • Full Members, Family Members, and Honorary Members are entitled…
  • All members have the right of access…
  • All classes of members may use the Club facilities subject to these bye-laws:
    • The use of the Gym and other facilities…
    • Only full members are entitled to discounts…
    • Discounts on Club functions may be available…
  • The entitlement to any reciprocal or other rights…
  • After one year of membership: Full Members, Family Members, and Life Members acquire voting rights…
  • Temporary Honorary Membership may be granted to competitors:
    • Visiting members must present a valid membership card…
    • Or provide a letter of introduction…
    • All visiting members must sign the visitor’s log…
    • Reciprocity valid unless resident in Malta over 3 months…
    • Does not apply to reciprocal members of Maltese clubs…


4. Resignation and Re-election of Members (Under Review)

  • A member may resign from the Club by informing the Honorary Secretary in writing via email…
    • Resignation confers no right to refund…
  • Members who have resigned may be re-admitted:
    • Within 12 months — request permission to re-join…
    • After 12 months — normal application process may apply…
  • On re-election former members regain rights except voting rights until 12 months accumulated…
  • A ‘ceased’ member is someone who has let their subscription lapse over 6 months…
  • Ceased members may be re-admitted:
    • Before 12 months lapse — must request permission…
    • After 12 months — may need to follow full admission procedure…
  • Resigned members trying to use reciprocal rights may be refused…


5. Entrance Fees and Subscriptions

  • The current level of entrance fees and subscriptions is set out on the Club’s website…
  • Former members rejoining after 2 years must pay entrance fee difference if increased…
  • Annual subscription fee due within 10 days of re-election…
  • Failure to pay within 10 days renders election void…


6. Member Conduct

  • Members shall avoid behaviour harmful to the Club…
  • Members making use of reciprocal clubs must observe their rules…
  • Members, visitors, and guests must adhere to Maltese laws…
  • No intimidation, offence, violence, or discrimination…
  • Children under 16 must be supervised…
  • Cadet Members may access unsupervised…
  • Members responsible for their guests…
  • No member may claim to represent the Club without authorization…
  • Pets allowed if controlled and not a nuisance…
  • Breaches may result in removal from premises…


7. Mobile Phones and Laptop Computers

  • Use allowed but discreetly…
  • Club not liable for injury or loss…
  • Use of Club WiFi at own risk…


8. Smoking

  • Smoking prohibited indoors by law…
  • Permitted on terrace if smoke not entering the building…


9. Dress Code

  • Club requires reasonable dress standards…
  • Minimum casual dress inside clubhouse…
  • Casual clothing defined: collared shirts, trousers, dresses, etc.
  • Not allowed: swimwear (unless covered) or offensive slogans…
  • Formal dress required for certain events — failure means no admittance…


10. Arrears and Defaulters

  • Failure to pay invoice within 30 days → notice; 61 days → posted as defaulter…
  • Business-owning member personally liable for unpaid invoices…
  • Membership cannot be renewed while in debt…
  • Former defaulters may be re-admitted upon settlement and explanation…


11. Enforcement of these Bye-Laws

  • Officers and staff have authority to enforce…
  • Members should report infringements verbally first…
  • If unresolved, a written complaint to Honorary Secretary…
  • Secretary will acknowledge within 3 days, respond within 14 days…
