The Association of International Women (Malta) will be hosting the monthly lecture at the Royal Malta Yachtc Club on Thursday 24th January.
This month’s AIWM lecture is entitled: ‘The Official Colours of War’ and will be given by Caroline Miggiani. Caroline is a Maltese art historian with a special interest in the paintings of the WW2 artists as depictors of that war in Malta, and who were appointed by the British Government. Caroline has very recently published a book collating the works of Leslie Cole, a prolific artist of the genre, called “The Official Colours of War”. These paintings show the war scenes in a glorified light, rather than the realistic coverage we expect today from our photographic war correspondents, and were intended as a form of positive propaganda. Caroline has very kindly donated a copy of her book to AIWM. There will be raffle to win this book at the end of her presentation. Raffle tickets cost €3 (or €5 for two tickets), and can be bought on arrival. The proceeds from the raffle will go towards our 2019 charities.
